After forty-five years in the roofing, waterproofing, architectural sheet metal, and commercial/industrial wall system business, William Hunter retired in January, 2017. He was a partner of Hahnel Bros. Co., the oldest leading Roofing & Sheet Metal business in Maine, which has prospered for over one hundred years.

During his tenure, from 1972 to 2017, Hunter was involved in every position in the roofing department, from entry level roofer, to field crew leader,to Executive Vice President of the company. His primary responsibility was the overall success of the roofing and siding department.

Hunter’s expertise lies in all aspects of installation, estimation, and project management. He has hands on experience in built-up, thermoset, thermoplastic, self-adhering, slate, asphalt shingle, metal, and tile roofing systems. Personally spearheading HBC’s movement to combine roofing, flashing, and wall panels under one main umbrella for project control and responsibility, he secured his position as a leader in Maine for installation of commercial and industrial wall panel systems.

EDUCATION & ASSOCIATIONS

His education includes BS from University of Maine at Orono, Central Maine Community College, Construction Management, Roofing Industry Educational Institute, Roof System Problem Solving & Metal Roof Systems, and National Roofing Contractors Association. Professional associations include a two term presidency of the Associated Builders & Contractors of Maine, and a seat on the Advisory Committee for the Northeast Roofing Contractors Association.

THE PRESENT

Hunter resides in Maine with his wife, Carmen, and further enjoys time with his children and
grandchildren in Maine and South Carolina. He continues to serve in community organizations
in the area and is active in the Auburn-Lewiston Breakfast Rotary Club, as well as, the Ashlar
Lodge A.F. & A.M. in Auburn, Maine.

In my forty-five years of service to the commercial and industrial roofing and sheet metal industry, I’ve forged relationships with architects, building owners, and developers as well as developed a strong working relationship with contractors and specialty consultants. I would like to continue these relationships and share my knowledge of building envelope systems for the successful completion of their projects.”
